We measure our success by the number of children whose lives are touched by our efforts each year. Houston Children’s Charity is served by its Founder, President & CEO Laura Ward, and a steadfast Board of Directors who carefully steward the resources of our donors to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Houston’s children.
With an ambitious goal to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered, we seek to expand our base of support through dedicated sponsors and committed volunteers to strengthen our ability to help children. Our supporters come from all walks of life and understand that caring means giving of themselves. There are numerous ways to be a part of our work. There are Gala nights.
And then there was Diana Ross.
In 2013, the legendary entertainer took the stage at Houston Children’s Charity’s 17th Annual Gala—and brought just a little bit of diva magic with her.
Four costume changes. Her own Steinway. More than an hour on stage. And nearly an entire ballroom on its feet.
By the end of the evening, more than $1.5 million had been raised to help Houston’s children.
Great music. Extraordinary generosity. One very glamorous night in Houston.
And after 30 years, we can still say:
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
30 Years of Unforgettable Nights.

Apparently, making a difference in Houston comes with a pretty interesting to-do list.
Help a child. Attend a Gala. Talk to the Mayor. Raise a paddle. FaceTime a celebrity. Hand a family the keys to a new van. And every once in a while, end the night with a legendary band playing to a packed house.
For 30 years, Houston Children’s Charity has brought together an extraordinary mix of people, generosity, big ideas—and more than a few unforgettable moments—all with one purpose: answering the call when Houston’s children need us.
Some things on the list are serious. Some are a lot of fun. All of them are possible because Houston continues to show up.
So what’s left to do?
Keep going.

It’s September in Houston, which means one thing: the Astros are gearing up for the stretch run. ⚾
So while we’re rooting for this year’s team, we thought we’d take a trip through the Houston Children’s Charity archives and celebrate a few Houston baseball legends who have stepped away from the diamond and stepped up for Houston’s children.
Jeff Bagwell. Craig Biggio. Larry Dierker. Nolan Ryan.
Hall of Famers. All-Stars. Houston icons. And, most importantly to us, people who have lent their time, visibility, and support to Houston Children’s Charity over the years.
For 30 years, Houston Children’s Charity has been fortunate to have extraordinary people from every corner of Houston answer the call when it matters.
