We measure our success by the number of children whose lives are touched by our efforts each year. Houston Children’s Charity is served by its Founder, President & CEO Laura Ward, and a steadfast Board of Directors who carefully steward the resources of our donors to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Houston’s children.
With an ambitious goal to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered, we seek to expand our base of support through dedicated sponsors and committed volunteers to strengthen our ability to help children. Our supporters come from all walks of life and understand that caring means giving of themselves. There are numerous ways to be a part of our work. Sometimes it’s black tie.
Sometimes it’s a poodle skirt.
And sometimes Olivia Newton-John walks onto the stage.
In 2012, Houston Children’s Charity went full Grease for one unforgettable night. Guests arrived Gala-ready—or looking like they’d just stepped out of Rydell High—for an evening appropriately called “Grease Is the Word.”
And Houston definitely understood the assignment.
Poodle skirts. Letter jackets. A packed dance floor. And, of course, Olivia performing the songs everyone already knew by heart.
But behind all that fun was a very serious purpose.
By the end of the night, more than $1.2 million had been raised for Houston’s children and families.
Not bad for a bunch of people in poodle skirts. 😉
For 30 years, HCC has dressed up, danced, laughed and welcomed some truly legendary performers—all while making an extraordinary difference for children across our community.
Because doing good can be serious.
But sometimes, it should be seriously fun, too.
And that night?
Olivia was the one that we wanted. ❤️
