We measure our success by the number of children whose lives are touched by our efforts each year. Houston Children’s Charity is served by its Founder, President & CEO Laura Ward, and a steadfast Board of Directors who carefully steward the resources of our donors to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Houston’s children.
With an ambitious goal to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered, we seek to expand our base of support through dedicated sponsors and committed volunteers to strengthen our ability to help children. Our supporters come from all walks of life and understand that caring means giving of themselves. There are numerous ways to be a part of our work. Houston Children’s Charity mourns the passing of Dave Ward, beloved husband of our President & CEO, Laura Ward, and a true icon of the Houston community. Dave’s impact on our organization has been PROFOUND—serving on our Advisory Board, lending his trusted voice to our mission, and championing the children we serve with compassion and dedication. His support strengthened our work and uplifted countless families across Houston.
For more than six decades, Dave’s voice shaped Houston’s media landscape. For 50 YEARS, Dave anchored Eyewitness News on ABC Channel 13, becoming Houston’s most trusted voice and a steadfast presence in our community.
Dave’s accolades—including a Guinness World Record as the longest‑running news anchor on the same newscast, induction into the Lone Star Emmy Gold Circle, and numerous civic honors—reflect his extraordinary career and lifelong commitment to service. His legacy is one of journalistic excellence, heartfelt community impact, and unwavering dedication to the city he loved.
Our hearts are with Laura and the entire family. Dave’s voice, his kindness, and his LEGACY OF SERVICE will CONTINUE TO INSPIRE the Houston Children’s Charity family for YEARS TO COME. 💛
