We measure our success by the number of children whose lives are touched by our efforts each year. Houston Children’s Charity is served by its Founder, President & CEO Laura Ward, and a steadfast Board of Directors who carefully steward the resources of our donors to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Houston’s children.
With an ambitious goal to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered, we seek to expand our base of support through dedicated sponsors and committed volunteers to strengthen our ability to help children. Our supporters come from all walks of life and understand that caring means giving of themselves. There are numerous ways to be a part of our work. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, nearly 1 IN 7 PEOPLE with disabilities live in households without access to a car — making everyday life, medical care, and independence far more challenging.
This is the MISSION behind CHARIOTS FOR CHILDREN — delivering SAFE, RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION and GREATER INDEPENDENCE to families of disabled, wheelchair-bound children through HANDICAPPED-ACCESSIBLE VANS. ✨
Since 1996, Houston Children’s Charity has awarded 440 LIFE-ALTERING CHARIOTS to agencies and individual families across Greater Houston! 🎉

On December 20th, our ANNUAL TOY DISTRIBUTION proudly served 16,500 CHILDREN across Greater Houston, distributing 66,000 TOYS and creating moments of joy families will carry with them far beyond the holiday season. 🎁✨
“I just want to say thank you — from the bottom of my heart — to the staff, volunteers, and donors who showed up for families like mine,” shared Kena Bush, mother to August Hall. “Every detail, every smile, every act of kindness mattered. Some of the work you did was seen, and so much of it was unseen — but please know that it was felt. Watching my daughter open her gifts was a moment I will never forget. You made us feel cared for, supported, and remembered, and that means more than words can express.”
None of this would have been possible without 1,300 INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS, the generosity of 50+ DONATING ORGANIZATIONS, and the support of HOUSTON FIRST CORPORATION, who donated 115,000 square feet of space at the George R. Brown Convention Center! ❤️
We are also grateful for our 17-year partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Marine Toys for Tots Foundation program, our dedicated Christmas Co-Chairs — Ernest Hunter II, LeAnn Kaczynski, and Robin L. Young-Ellis, the Union Pacific Railroad Vets for volunteering and donating 18,500 toys, Target South Main and H-E-B for providing shopping carts, 93Q Houston, Houston's Eagle, Majic 102.1, and KBXX 97.9 The Box for pumping up the crowd, and Council Member Council Member Willie Davis for joining us and representing the City of Houston! 🎉
